Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Tectum Roofing collects when you use this website or get in touch with us, what we do with it, and what rights you have over it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.
Who we are
Tectum Roofing provides domestic and commercial roofing services across London, Surrey, Sussex and the surrounding areas.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, the “data controller” for the information described in this policy is Tectum Roofing.
You can reach us at any time using the details in the Contact us section below.
What this policy covers
This policy covers this website and any enquiry you send us through it, by phone, by WhatsApp or by email. It does not cover other websites we may link to — those have their own policies.
The information we collect
We only collect information you choose to give us. We do not build profiles of visitors, and we do not buy or sell contact data.
When you send an enquiry
The enquiry forms on this site ask for:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number (optional)
- The type of property and the service you are interested in
- Anything else you choose to write in the message box
Please only include what is needed to answer your enquiry. There is no need to send us financial details, and we will never ask for them by email.
When you call, email or message us
If you phone us, email us, or message us on WhatsApp, we will have whatever contact details you use to reach us, plus the content of the conversation.
When we visit your property
If we carry out an inspection, survey or job for you, we will hold your address and notes about the work, and we may take photographs of the roof for our records and for quoting purposes.
Information collected automatically
Our web host keeps standard server logs, which typically include IP addresses, the pages requested and the time of the request. These are used to keep the site running and secure, not to identify individual visitors.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To answer your enquiry and give you a quote. Lawful basis: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
- To carry out work you have asked us to do, and to deal with anything that comes up afterwards. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
- To keep records of jobs, quotes and correspondence, including for insurance, warranty and accounting purposes. Lawful basis: legal obligation and our legitimate interests in running the business properly.
- To keep the website working and secure. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests.
We do not use your details for marketing unless you have asked us to.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information to anyone. We share it only where we need to:
- Netlify, which hosts and serves this website. Netlify is a US company and its servers may be located outside the UK.
- Formspree, which delivers the enquiry forms to us. Anything you type into a form passes through Formspree, a US company, on its way to our inbox.
- Google, if you accepted analytics. Google Analytics processes usage data, and Google is a US company. If you declined, nothing is shared with Google.
- Suppliers or subcontractors, where a job genuinely requires it, and only with the details they need.
- Our accountant, insurer or legal advisers, where necessary.
- Anyone we are legally required to share it with.
Where a provider stores information outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards that provider has in place for international transfers.
How long we keep it
If your enquiry does not lead to work, we keep the details you gave us — including your address — until the enquiry is closed, and then delete them.
Where we have carried out work for you, we keep records of that job for six years from the end of the work. That is the period tax rules require for business records, and it also covers the window in which a claim about the work could be brought. After that, we delete them.
Cookies and analytics
We don’t set any cookies unless you agree to them. On your first visit you’ll see a short notice asking whether you’re happy for us to use analytics. Nothing is set until you answer.
If you choose Accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use the site — which pages get read, which don’t, and roughly where visitors come from. It sets cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to two years. We have IP anonymisation switched on, and we don’t use analytics to identify anyone personally or to advertise to you.
If you choose Decline, Google Analytics is never loaded and any analytics cookies already on your device are deleted.
Your answer is remembered in your browser’s local storage so we don’t keep asking. That record stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page.
Apart from analytics, nothing on these pages loads from another company’s servers — the fonts, images and code are all served from this site.
Links to other sites
The WhatsApp buttons on this site open a conversation in WhatsApp, which is operated by Meta. Once you leave this website, WhatsApp’s own privacy policy applies to that conversation, not ours.
How we keep your information safe
This website is served over an encrypted connection. Enquiries and job records are kept on password-protected accounts and devices, and access is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you send us.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it
- Have inaccurate information corrected
- Ask us to delete information we no longer need
- Ask us to restrict how we use it
- Object to us using it on the basis of our legitimate interests
- Ask for a copy of information you gave us in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we relied on consent
To exercise any of these, just contact us using the details below. We will respond within one month. There is no charge in normal circumstances.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Please check back from time to time.
